An exciting and challenging role exists for a Clinical Support Practitioner to join our Child & Family Services team in Parkes, NSW to provide clinical knowledge and expertise to support children and young people who are residing in Out of Home Care. 

The Clinical Support Practitioner is required to provide clinical assistance under the direct guidance of existing Intensive Therapeutic Transitional Care (ITTC) team members in a child-centred environment or through the outreach program. The role of the Clinical Support Practitioner is to support the Child & Therapeutic Specialists by assisting with achieving the overarching goals for therapeutic intervention.

Own It – How we get the job done

The Clinical Support Practitioner works with residential care worker, family, kin and case managers to ensure children and young people who have experienced trauma, receive positive support and therapeutic care. This will include development of therapeutically appropriate plans and services, including assessments and behaviour support plans. A background in clinical delivery and therapy will be an advantage.

This role forms part of a Multi Disciplinary outreach team providing responsive and tailored programs, assessment and therapeutic supports to children and young people across New England.

Role Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the administration and support of educational & school tasks, including one on one tutoring in the residential space, based on the educational needs of the CYP’s in placement.
  • Providing one on one cultural support, including culturally specific observations, recommendations, mentoring and linking with area defined cultural supports. 
  • Transport to and from appointments (medical, clinical etc.) to have effective support from a clinical perspective. This will also provide the opportunity for clinical observations at appointments and interactions with other professionals in a community setting.
  • Willingness to work alongside the existing ITTC clinical team and embrace guidance, professional development and supports.
  • The completion of a cultural recommendation report including life story work, genogram, and cultural recommendations.
  • Assist with developing independent living skills
  • Provide placement supports
  • Assist with risk management 
  • Engage young people aged 12- 18 years who are at risk of having a placement breakdown
  • Create a safe and supportive environment for young people within the ITTC program

Make It Matter – What you will bring to make a difference in other’s lives

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or Mental Health Nursing and/or relevant experience
  • Current registration in relevant and appropriate Registration Body if applicable
  • Relevant experience and knowledge obtained in a therapeutic care setting or working in a clinical environment with Children and Young People
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience and the Child Protection and or Out of Home Care Service System,
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and operational issues across the Child and Family Services
  • National Police Check and Working with Children’s Check WWCC. National Police Check will be completed by us for the successful candidate.
  • Vaccinated against Covid-19
